Finally left La Paz

Well we finally untied the dock lines and left La Paz. We waited one more day to see and have dinner with our friends Ian and Ellen. We went to our favorite burger joint, Bandidos, where they grill the burgers under the hood of a Chevy truck. Great deal for a ¼ lb cheeseburger for 29 pesos and a large order of really good fries for another 29 pesos. We left the dock and went to the fuel dock where we took on 200 liters of fuel at a cost of about $4.20 US per gallon which I think was 13.8 pesos per liter. This is more than we have paid in the past and the government has been increasing the price of fuel a little each month. Not much of a savings anymore. Our first stop was Isla Partida and we got there 3 hours later and attempted to anchor. Ian had told me that the bottom was covered with sea grass and came up in clumps on your anchor. There were 8 boats anchored and we tried twice to get the anchor to bite and then gave up and went around the corner to Ensenada Grande where there were only 2 boats and no grass so we were able to anchor easily on the first try. Had a smooth night and slept well after Penny got reacquainted with her star friends. We left the next morning for the 20 mile run to Isla San Francisco in calm seas and light wind. Arrived and dropped anchor and were with 8 other boats. This is one of our favorites and we were happy to be back. We were joined by Bill and Sue on Sun Baby Too and Bob and Janey on Amiga. Penny and I took a hike over to the beach on the other side to collect agates. Once I found one then it was easy to spot them. We collected about a dozen and I have no idea what we will do with them when we get home. We went for a dinghy cruise and went by a catamaran that looked familiar and they called us over and gave us a nice piece of yellowtail. Turns out the boat was the former Katitude from SDYC. The young man just bought it and is following his dream. After we completed our cruise we went back to the boat and got ready for a great fish dinner. From the sea to the BBQ just can't be beat. Later we observed the comet that was beneath the moon and going west as its tail was up. You needed binoculars but it was interesting. Next morning we headed over to Isla San Jose and anchored and took the dinghy into the mangroves and into the estuary that ends up in a long narrow point that is made up of cobblestones. Penny was in 7th heaven and we lugged back some great specimens (to her at least) and loaded them into the bilge for the trip home where they will end up in our yard with the other rocks she has collected and I have transported. We left San Jose and headed for Puerto San Evaristo and did a tour of the bay and decided to go around the point and anchor off the salt ponds where we would be sheltered from the southerly winds that we should have for the next several days. We anchored and were later joined by Sun Baby Too and Amiga and 2 other boats. Very calm night with another spectacular sky show that you just can't see in populated areas. After dinner of pork chops, mashed potatoes, and carrots we watched a movie, American Psycho. Very strange movie. So today we will head north to Los Gatos where the rocks are red and the hiking good. More later.
