Penny's Two Cents: 3-13-13 Three Thirteen Thirteen.

There are no city lights, there is no moonlight and there is no wind. There is absolute quiet except for the sound of slight water movement and the comforting sound of the rigging. I am looking straight at Orion's Belt with the beautiful triangle surrounding the belt starring Rigel, Betelguese, and Bellatrix. There are thousands of stars visible to the naked eye and the universe is so beautiful.
3-16-13. ALERT! 50 Knot Winds! Well, it sure feels like 50 knots of wind! Maybe there is a problem with our electronics because they only registered a high of 30. We are anchored off of a beautiful stretch of beach, on the mainland, by the name of San Telmo, and the wind has picked up from the west blowing like crazy. There are only three sailboats anchored here . . . the wind has a friendly feel to it though you can tell it means business if you're not careful. So we rolled up our awning, secured the dinghy, and cooked up a hot pot of soup, which smells delicious as we speak. As we go further north the lights of La Paz diminish and the stars, which were already spectacular, continue to leave me amazed. Today the sun rose at 6:27am and set at 6:29pm giving us 12:01 hours of daylight.
3-18-13. Just Before Sunrise. The sound of porpoises swimming and surfacing around the boat happily brought me up into the cockpit with enough darkness to see the Milky Way. Then the sky started to lose the stars and everything turned to pink with the sky and the silk of the water blending together. There is a soft breeze coming off of the hills behind us with the most beautiful scent of sweetness; earth and spring and something that has the smell of cinnamon. We are anchored in Agua Verde - the bay is shaped like a 3 leaf clover, one leaf faces the tiny village; one leaf will soon become very popular with Mexican families coming to enjoy the Easter holiday; and the 3rd leaf, which is where we are anchored, has the red rocks of the Sierra de la Giganta mountain range sloping straight down into the water and surrounding us yet allowing room for a sandy beach that is now housing several kayaker's and four small Drascome sailboats. The rising sun appears to be setting the hills on fire with a red-orange light. I think this is going to be an excellent day.
