One of Our Favorites!

After a nice afternoon and night in San Francisco we took off and headed for Los Gatos 38 miles north. We had some good south breeze and a south swell so I rolled out the jib and we motored sailed at 8.5 knots until the wind died a half hour later. That seems to always be the case down here for us. We continued with the south swell giving us a good push and made Los Gatos 5 hours later. Got the anchor down and relaxed and then went in for a beach walk. There was a kayak group from Oregon there with 9 kayaks and they had tents set up and a mess tent for food. Three pangas and 4 Mexican staff and they were having a good old time. They were howling at the moon which was spectacular in its rising over the Sea of Cortez. Quite breathtaking. After a comfortable night we weighed anchor and left for an 18 mile trip to our favorite anchorage, Agua Verde. No wind to sail so we entered the harbor and the West anchorage was full with about 12 boats but the East anchorage, our favorite, had only 3 so anchored there. The forecast was for strong northerly winds and that is why most of the boats were in the Western anchorage which has more protection from the Northerlies. We had a comfortable night with a little rolling for a couple of hours but no wind to speak of. Penny made banana pancakes for breakfast after a couple games of cribbage and a general boat cleaning. Now we are just sitting outside reading and enjoying the day. We will spend one more night here and then probably go to Candelaros where the hotel is and stay there a night and use the hotel facilities for cocktails and maybe dinner. Then on to Puerto Escondido where we have a reservation for a mooring but it remains to be seen if that holds true. Also will there be fuel there or not, that is the question that a lot of boats are asking. Loreto Fest generally will see 100 or so boats so it will be interesting to see what transpires. TMO probably. (TMO=typical Mexican operation).
