Day 3
08 July 2013 | Off Fort Bragg
Fred/gray and overcast
Same ol, same ol. Good dinner by John last night of pasta and sausage. Days run was good with an average of 7.5 + knots and reasonable seas. Our sea state is picking up and we have SSE winds of 15 knots. As we close on the Oregon border we are expecting 20+ knots and significant seas to 20 feet. Hope they are wrong. Shouldn't las too long and should be calmer as we break through to the other side.
Last night, 2am, I was in my bunk and the engines came to a stop and then reversed. Seems that we hit something with the port prop and we tried to clear it by backing down. We get vibration at our normal cruising RPMs so we are throttled back a little so our average speed is down about a half not. May pull into Eureka and get a diver to check it out time and weather permitting. That's the only excitement we had other than another whale breaching in front of us.
