Day 5
10 July 2013 | off the coast of Oregon about Depoe Bay
Fred/Some Sun!!
The stop in Brookings was justified as we have no vibration and canrun the engines up if need be. We are still cruising along at 7.5 knots but got slowed a little yesterday as we had some wind in the high 20's with gusts to 30. On the nose of course so I guess He picks on power boats as well as sailboats. Seas were up as well so we were banging into them and the planned dinner of Chicken was put on hold in favor of AT AT. That stands for "any thing any time" in our house when we (read Penny) doesn't feel like cooking. John's leftover pasta was the hit of the night. Finally found some radar targets to play with on my watch as I had 5 boats forming a picket line in front of me. As we closes a hole opened right in front of me so no course change was necessary. Bumpy night but it calmed some this morning and now at noon it is pleasant. Still blowing high teens but flattend out some and the sun is out. I guess it's always out but the fog is gone and we can see the coast and all the trees.
We did have a problem with a mouse this morning when I came on watch. Seems that the poor bastard had had enough of the rough seas and an occasional sprinkle and falling off the bridge that he just decided that his left side would just quit. Must have had a stroke. As Penny sadi, kill him and put him out of his misery! Hard to change course on the computer without him so I took him below and fed him a new battey. He perked up a little but his left side was still bad. Email to the owner as he said there was another one on the boat andhe called and told me where to look. I found one and has a tail so we plugged him in and we are back in business. I set Bob up with the next waypoints and hit the rack. When I got up I find that Ken and John found another mouse in John"s kit that has no tail so we now have two. Shit when it rains it pours! We decided that we would feed and care for our mice for the remainder of the trip. Looking forward to a sunny afternoon watch. Mas Manana.
