Day 6
11 July 2013 | 20 miles south of Cape Flattery
Yesterday the seas calmed some more and we had a pleasant ride. Arrived off the Columbia River around midnight and spent the time dodging shipping. We also picked up a 2 knot current when we got North of the river boosting our speed to 9.5 knots for awhile. We actually had a sunrise this morning and it has been visible all day. Seas relatively flat so the ride is comfortable and enjoyable. You can tell we are nearing port as "liberty fever" is creeping in. Starting to clean up the boat, sorting through your clothes and planning the last night meal. Looks like it is unanimous for tri tip on the barby tonight. Calm enough to do it without them flying off the grill.
The Coast Guard snuck up behind us and radioed that they wanted or documentation number. Smooth talking Ken responded with the number and that we had been boarded in Brookings and they asked for the file number and boarding officers name. Ken had that on the Gold sheet that they give you when boarded and it worked as our "get out of jail free" card. They came back after checking their files and probably the NSA files and told us to have a safe trip. That was the only drama so far for day 6.
Bob and John made bean and cheese burritos for lunch so the rest of the crew is napping or watching tv while I dodge crab floats. We will stop in Port Townsend tomorrow to drop off our cargo and then proceed to Bell Marina in Seattle where we should arrive late morning.
