Leg 1 Day 1
We were told that we would be launched at 10:00 and when that to
Ime rolled around the travel lift picked up another boat to launch. So finally at 11:00 they lifted us up to paint the bottom of the keel and it needed to dry for an hour or so. We went for an early lunch and I had 3 really delicious quesadillas with a really good guacamole sauce that was just spicy enough and some good salsa and a great mango smoothie all for about $7.00. There was a cruise ship in town and we suspect there are 2 menus but we asked for the locals menu but he wouldn't admit there was one. Then we tried to pay in pesos and that was ok but he didn't have peso change because they stocked up on dollars for the cruise ship. What does that tell you! Anyway the exchange rate was what I expected so no harm, just good food,
So back to the yard to find Scout in the water with 4 men working reinstalling the head stay and tightening the back stays and the mechanic down below checking his work to be sure we didn't have any leaks. Just as we wanted to run the engine to check the repair on the shaft cooling system the lunch bell rang and they all left for lunch! We had to wait an hour and when they got back everything checked out and we finally got off the dock and headed over to Marina Coral for fuel. After topping off we were finally underway in Baja HaHa XXI!
Of course there wasn't much wind so we motored all night as the others had a 20 hour head start. Pleasant night and not to cold. Had a few passings with northbound boats but very little traffic. Also not much wind and we are trying to catch the fleet and make it to Turtle Bay in time for the baseball game with the local kids. Looks like we will arrive in the early morning Thursday so we will make the afternoon game.
Had some good hot cinnamon rolls for breakfast and now just hanging out hoping for some wind this after that might allow us to sail.
