Further Down the Road - Sayulita. Penny's Point of View (PPOV)
Nice drive down - no problems, no traffic, shared driving. Sayulita was a big WOW for us because it's exploded in popularity since we were there a few years ago.
Unlike Cabo, there is a healthy mix of Norteamericanos and Mexicans, all getting along just fine. Our trusty "Church Camper Guide" suggested a few places between MZT and PV, but we knew we wanted to stay at the Sayulita RV Park since we'd checked it out twice before on earlier trips. A German man has owned it since 1972. He paid $21,000 for it then and has since been offered $10,000,000. At some point beach front RV camping is going to become a memory.
Hey, we arrived at the same time as the Sayulita Cine, Music, Trago and Surf Festival started! It was a blast; the "Cine" part was modeled (loosely) around Sundance with shorts and feature length movies at several locations every night . . except it was all free! And enough seating that no one was turned away at any location! The Surf part was accommodated by 8-10 foot waves and was exciting to watch. The "Trago" part, which means "swig" in Spanish was lots of fun too! The plaza was filled with every imaginable kind of adult beverage - all free! Yow-Za - something for everyone. Oh yes, the music part? It was next door to our camping site and went on until 4AM.
On Monday we were lucky enough to meet up with our friends Sharon and Mike Satterlee. Their recommendation for lunch was Playa Escondida. Oh my gosh, this place was exquisite. High End luxury boutique bungalows set way up in the hills with a miracle view of the sea. And the lunch was mouth watering fresh mahi mahi with butter and garlic. Sure appreciated Mike and Sharon taking us this this magical place! (One funny thing happened - I mistook the Men's room for the Ladies room and was charmed by the foot baths made out of rock with small spray hoses on the side. Yikes.)
The plan was to stay here for 2 days but in true Mexican style we stayed 7. Now onward - inland toward Guadalajara and points East.
Stay Safe, Healthy, and Happy.
