About Tender Spirit

01 September 2009
Joan
Tender Spirit is a Hans Christian 33 built in 1986. Her serial number is XSA3117H686. We have owned Tender Spirit for 4 years with absolutely no regrets. She is everything we wanted in a bluewater vessel. We have added a lot of gear to upgrade both the safety and comfort of everyone on board. About the only thing I dislike is the amount of upkeep of the exterior woodwork. If that is the only thing about her that I don't like, that should say it all! Of course, there are times we wish Tender Spirit was bigger or faster, but don't we all have those desires for our boats especially when stashing gear or on long passages.
I won't go into all the specifications of Hans Christians because there is a lot of information out there already. So I suggest you go to the following great websites to get you started:

Hans Christian Owners Association, great site devoted to Hans Christians: http://www.hanschristian.org/index.shtml
Pantawee Marine in Thailand where new Hans Christians are back in production:
http://www.pantaweemarine.com/
Cruising Rescources:

Some of the major gear that we have added to Tender Spirit:
Stainless Steel piping welded to the stanchions instead of wire lifelines
Swing down heavy duty ladder that mounts on the stainless rail.
Stainless steel arch with the following on it:
2 solar panels, radar, wind generator
Single sideband radio with a Pactor modem
New set of sails by Carol Hasse
Portable Generator
Whisker pole
Windvane steering

The list goes on and on, but too time consuming for the sake of this post.
I also won't mention the tons of stuff (all treasures we just can't live without) we have packed into Tender Spirit. It's a good thing she has lots of stowage!!! She actually could use a weight loss program!!

Vessel Make/Model: Hans Christian 41
Hailing Port: Alaska
Crew: Joan & Chuck
About:
Joan once again, failed to complete the program to quit sailing. She tried to be a landlubber. It lasted for only 6 years. Chuck, the ever-patient spouse quietly enjoys the adventure. SHHH....he's still a closet sailor......hasn't come out yet... [...]
Extra: There are only two unbendable rules on this vessel: 1. We can change our mind. 2. We can change direction. Everything else is flexible.

This smallest of nations has people with big hearts. Niue is unique in its beautiful caves and chasms. Lush jungles and Humpback whales add to this amazing place.
