Cartagena

Took a 4 hour bus ride to Cartagena arriving around midday. We were staying in the Getsemani area which is quite arty and bohemian. Lots of art on the walls, and very colourful buildings. We managed to stumble across one of the best fish restaurants in the city quite by chance, and had a lovely meal with a couple of cold beers. It wasn’t to be our last visit there!
The next day we spent in the walled city, which reminded us of Cadiz, although there were quite a lot of derelict buildings and the street vendors were numerous, selling hats, fruit, carvings, bracelets, and rather unusually one selling rosaries!
The Sunday was there celebration of independence, so there was a lot of partying with foam being sprayed all over the place, so we retired to our favourite restaurant to watch it all happen outside, including a massive rain storm which turned the road into a river for a short time.
Monday we returned to Santa Marta to start preparations for leaving at the weekend for the San Blas Islands.
