The Boat
20 December 2005
It wouldn't be right to talk about all our sailing adventures without giving credit to the one who makes it all possible. This is our waterborne carriage, and our weekend home. Tere Moana (French Polynesian for Wave Rider) is a 1979 Lancer 36. She was built in Irvine, California by Lancer Yachts. The bummer is Lancer Yachts long since went out of business so finding information on these boats is challenging. I was lucky enough to have found it for sale in Waikiki's Ala Wai Boat Harbor, and I jumped on it. After seeing what is available on this island as far as used boats, this truly was a gem. I am in the middle of replacing the headliner which was showing its age, and I will be redoing the wood on deck, and a few other projects, but when I am done she will be perfect. My hope is to sail her back to the mainland when I move off the island in a few years.
20 December 2005 | Pearl Harbor
This was meant to be a relaxing 2 hour-long cruise in the harbor, but when the 20 knot winds picked up to 30 kts it turned into an America's Cup kind of sailing day. Unfortunately Amy had family from England on board and I think it scared them half to death. This picture shows us getting the rails wet even with a reefed main. I can't imagine the workout we would have gotten had we left the confines of the harbor! After this sail I had to replace 2 of the reefing points in the main as they had ripped out.

20 December 2005 | Oahu
Aloha from the beautiful island of Oahu! This is the first of hopefully many posts to chronical our sailing adventures aboard our 36' Lancer. Right now we are only doing short day sails to Waikiki, or trips along the South shore of the island, but in the very near future we are going to venture out to some of the other islands. Until then, here are some pics of both Pearl Harbor sailing, and Waikiki.
