The adventure begins
30 December 2011 | Rio Dulce Guatemala
Sherry, Warm, Humid, 26 celcius
We left Edmonton at 06:30 hrs and landed in Houston Tx. at 11:30 hrs. We had a 7hr lay over so we had a bite to eat some beer and a margaritta and tried to have a sleep. When we arrived in Guatemala city we had a porter for dad and he whisked us away filled out our paperwork for us and bypassed bag search etc and onto a bus waiting to go to the Holiday Inn in zona 10. Checked in at the hotel had a few rum and went to bed we were all very exhausted. In the morning we went and had a buffet breakfast which was included in the room and then our private van picked us up and we headed for the Rio Dulce. We made a few stops on the way and had a bite to eat we ate some empinadas (of sort) that were filled with farm fresh cheese and herbs they were delicious, dad said he enjoyed them. We arrived at the marina 5 hrs later picked up our key to the house we rented for 35.00 usd a night ( it is a 3 bdrm, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, bedding, towels, dishes etc. and best of all it is in the marina feet from our boat (pic added) We then checked the boat out and went and had dinner and beer at the marina resteraunt we had 2 chicken dinners, a pasta dinner 6 beer and a cola all for 20 usd and we were stuffed when we finished and dad was unable to finish his. The next day Dad stayed around the marina and Todd and I ventured out and picked up groceries (grocery shopping here is not like home i will take pictures and add them for you to see at a later date). The food is very good here and dad seems to enjoy it. Dad is having a good time and enjoying the weather Todd and I find it warm and muggy but dad say's it's just right, as long as he is comfy were happy. Dad just keeps saying "this is the life". and we still have all our jewels on us so all is good.
The boat is looking really good still a little bit of work being done but should be finished in the next day or 2. The weather has been very nice here and everything is lush green, better than we remember it from the last time we were here, but we were told they has a drought here last year and it was very dry. There is a helicopter right out side our house and we have watched a few come and go. We have seen a few creepy crawlers in the house do not want to scar anyone so I will keep the breed to myself. Hope you enjoy the picture will take more as we go along. We are very Safe here so no worries
