When will it be spring?

The last few days and weeks have been a blur of activity. While we have moved aboard and begun tackling the myriad of tasks necessary to complete before our departure, the weather has been less than cooperative. When I say less cooperative, what I mean is downright miserable.. May is typically one of the best months for amount of sunshine and minimal precipitation in Alaska.......just ask any Alaskan and they will tell you. But we've had temperatures in the low 40's and even mid-30's with wind blowing either from the south or north (usually both in the same day) with velocities in the 20-30 knot range. Since one of our major projects to complete before we leave involves replacing all the standing rigging, that weather presents a less than ideal climate for hanging 60-feet above the boat and trying to thread a 60-foot long roll of 1/2" stainless steel wire through the masthead. Still, we've made good headway - considering and are almost done with the standing rigging replacement job. Today, in spite of it snowing several times throughout the day, we finished installation of our new headstay - complete with new Harken Roller Furling unit and man does it look sexy.
There's still so much to do that when the weather blows us off the dock, we just move inside (after a few expletives) and tackle indoor projects. This has led to a bunch of projects that are still only partially complete, but they are getting there. These include water maker, solar panel and trolling generator system components and wiring, etc. Still, thinking about leaving the dock in only a week and a half is a bit daunting, but hey - the forecast is looking up for Tues and beyond. The wind is still howling tonight and we've got the cheery little fireplace going. We will keep our fingers crossed for that weather!
