The last time we visited Key West was by road when the kids were teenagers. It is very different visiting by boat and as a couple. We both woke up late and had a leisurely morning which included a long shower in the luxury shower block. We were just about to leave the boat and start exploring when we got an Amazon notification that a delivery had been made, so we picked up the parcels, dumped them on the boat, and set off for Hemingway’s home. His home is a little oasis - the gardens have brick pathways, tropical plants and places to sit and enjoy the beauty and the shade. The house was built in the late 19th century and has an English charm with a laid back island vibe. It was fun listening to some stories about his life as we toured the house. There are also 58 cats on the property that have descended from Hemingways distinctive cat that had six toes on its front feet. Many of the cats have six toes - some on all four feet, and one of them followed us on the tour for several rooms. Timmy was happy sitting in my bag watching everyone and every cat. We then headed to the Southernmost Point and came across the Banana Cafe which Dave had recommended. We enjoyed pomme frites with garlic and Parmesan followed by banana flambés. Delicious - thanks Dave! We may make it back there for breakfast tomorrow. There was a line to take pictures at the Southernmost Point so we got within three feet of it, snapped a quick picture and headed back to Solitude to put our feet up. We are loving Key West more than we thought we would. When we brought Jack, Max and Daniela we did the highlights but it was very busy. This time, although it is busy, we have more time to wander the area and appreciate the architecture, history and the thrill of being on dry land.
