Sailing South on Solitude

John, Penni & Timmy

After a fun weekend here swimming in the ocean and the pool, we think tomorrow is actually the day we will cross to Lake Worth. The conditions are not ideal, but it will only get worse later in the week. The forecast is for 3-4 foot seas with 6 second intervals. Ideally we would want the interval to be 8 (double the height of the average high wave). Added to which our friends Kathie and Greg did the crossing today and they said the waves were a lot higher. However, they were heading further south than we are going so they were more against the waves. John assure me that the waves will be behind us. There will be a good wind for sailing. But no, he cannot promise me calm seas. So the next challenge is before me. I am looking forward to a long sail and will just hope that the waves are not too scary. It is about 72 nautical miles and we are hoping to do it in less than 12 hours. We will leave from the marina at first light. I am not in a rush to leave Bimini but I am looking forward to getting back to the US with reliable Internet, a variety of fresh produce to choose from and of course getting the alternator and generator fixed. Picture is of our local grocery store where John stood just inside the door, said what he wanted and the owners gathered the products for him.
