Beloved Mexico - Land of Contrasts
27 June 2006 | Mexico
Beloved Mexico, land of my birth,
With your varied peoples
And grand extremes,
You capture my heart as you
Did my Mother's and Father's before me.
I too fall to your enchantment,
For what now is and
For all that once was --
This progressing Mexico antiguo,
With its tattered life chaotic,
Its romance born of language,
And its people's spirit in the land.
So by the hand of one close to my heart
I become a part of my Beloved Mexico,
And so shall I present myself to this world,
Leaving for now the Colossus to the North
That moves, but knows and cares not
What rich and gentle textures it disturbs.
For oh my Beloved Mexico,
You capture and hold me as I go,
And help me learn better yet who I am,
As I know you did for my parents before me.
