National Politics in Mexico
27 June 2006 | La Paz, BC, Mexico
The political oligopoly that has ruled Mexico since its revolution is crumbing and democracy is beginning to emerge. Mexicans are beginning to think about politics in a more modern and realistic way. Congressional and Constitutional reforms are needed and almost everyone understands that. If they are made, Mexico will take a big step forward. Nothing like a little success to encourage more.
The real fear this year, however, was that Mexico would make the quarter finals of World Cup Soccer and everyone would be so excited they would forget to vote in the July 2 national election. It did not happen. Argentina saw to that.
