Republicans Are in a Box

They promised their base they would repeal Obamacare. This was rhetoric for the deplorables and an oath of office for the oligarchy, which wants the resulting tax cut from repeal and they want that tax cut now. But republicans know if they deliver on full repeal, the American people will hate them, and if they don't, the oligarchy will. The real pressure is on. What to do?
Craft something a bit better than the AHCA bill and ram it through in secret is the republican answer. This is the balance republican leaders have struck or will strike in their quandary and it is not to be disturbed by discussion, CBO reports and amendments. A bad report card will be forthcoming regardless but will it be so bad that midterm elections will be seriously affected? The base did want Obamacare repealed, right? But, that is the question, the midterms. A big tax refund must be delivered to the oligarchs, even if it is smaller than they had hoped for and delivered soon.
Framed another way, a delicate compromise must be struck between pleasing the oligarchs with an acceptable tax cut and helping the American people with an acceptable healthcare bill. It is a delicate balance that cannot be held up for ex ante scrutiny and discussion. It is an unpleasant job that must get done. Damn those democrats for giving away so much of the store with Obamacare. They let the cat out of the bag, and now we republicans have to deal with this quandary. You can hear what is being said behind closed doors now.
It is the old problem of trying to serve two masters, the American people and the republican's real patrons, the oligarchs.
