Almost to OBAN, SCOTLAND

After heading to bed at 0400 I was able to sleep in until 1030; I woke up in time for my 0800 watcha nd could hear the sounds of breakfast and lots of chatter - no one called out for my assistnace so I buried my head for another 2 hours of well needed rest. We have no wind to speak of and are motor-sailing [...]

Transatlantic Day TEN

Day NINE we continued to make steady progress but in a slower lollygagging manner, seemingly pottering about here in the Atlantic with no purpose or direction - indeed we do have a direction but this bobbing to and fro feels less producitve for sure (lollygagging is what you did as a child - or were [...]

Transatlantic Day NINE

Day EIGHT started delicioiusly with a toasted bagel/egg-ham-cheese & tomato breakfast sandwich accompanied by a cup of fresh coffee, compliments of Peter - Marge, we're glad you gave him up for a couple of weeks! Our day was largly lazy with calm rolling seas and lots of reading & chit chat. The Hydrovane [...]

Start of Day 5

23 July 2011
This blogging from the North Atlantic is new to me so please forgive and have some patience. All is well on Tide Head. We are making great time - today is probably our slowest day to come so far. Day 1 headed out of St. John's we motored as the winds were not sufficient and we wanted to get beyond the iceflow region; at 0245 that first night we cut the engine and have been sailing since. Did you know Tide Head could easily hit 10 knots? Yup! She can and it's and awesome feeling - alomst a covert feeling in the dark of night dusting long atop the waves. In fact late-late in Day 2 we were instructed by our weather router to slow her down to avoid Tropical Storm Cindy. We've not seen much sealife - there were reports by 1/2 the crew of seeing whales but the jury's out on that one. Lot's of dolphins come regularly to play a beam of us and off the bow; one large wave wall in front of us broke to reveal dolphins - a beautiful sight. I must go - brunch is ready - toasted Egg-BLT's, oh, and fresh French Press coffee. We're currently at 51 29.21N/34 48.19W. Cheers!
