850 Miles to go- woohoo!

Well, we are continuing to get wind and more wind. Last night we decided to keep up the 5S and about midnight it started honkin' to 35 kts. I was in the starboard aft bunk and felt like I was in a human torpedo. I had to get up to see what the heck was going on and all 5 guys were in the cockpit with Scotty manhandling Tiki J like no other (yes, I can say manhandling because there would have been no way ANY female could have controlled her like he did, or at least that's my opinion!) The Speed Over Ground was off the chart which maxs at 15 kts. We were a flyin'! The crew managed to be all in sync and get the spinnaker down with minimum issues. Afterwards everyone's adrenaline was going like crazy, it was hard for us to settle down. Brad offered cold beers to everyone and we got a good laugh (mainly because we don't have any, and second because we were so delirious!). The night seemed to take forever as we were all a bit over tired and needed more frequent breaks.
There has been little to no downtime due to the wind and if you can sleep with all the racket, you'd better take the chance. Here's where the problem of our fabulous dinners come in. We aren't cooking as much anymore! For you Ada Helen 2008 crew, this is definitely resulting in losing weight this trip. We are still managing to eat, but it isn't quite as convenient anymore!
We put up the 4S today and then hit some squawls. For those of you non-North Sails experts, this is a bigger fuller spinnaker. With the big waves and constant 20 kts, we decided we really don't like that sail anymore tho' (or maybe only SF bay sailing:) but it has such a nice Tiki Head on it! We have unanimously decided we like the 4S best of all for this trip. I know it seems on the tracker that we are headed in the wrong direction at times, but it's with purpose as we aren't afraid to jibe (it's unfortunate we haven't been logging those numbers!). Ah, that's the beautiful thing about sailing, can't get there exactly in a straight line from where you are!
So hear's to a good afternoon/evening/night and I'll report in on Thursday. Kim (P.S. Jackie and Vince - the CD isn't getting old and we have decided to play the hawaii 5-0 song on the way into the bay, of course after we clear the reef Dad!)
