This and that

"Mexican stackup" was the original plan for dinner tonight, but we soon realized that we were missing two key ingredients: Fritos and lettuce. What's another Mexican dish that doesn't necessarily require Fritos or lettuce? Nachos! Wrong again; considering there is no microwave on board, melting cheese would be rather difficult (I realize we could have used the oven but with people eating dinner throughout a three hour time period A- it's easier to serve individuallized meals in plastic bowls rather than in one big pan, and B- it's a pain in the butt to constantly turn the oven on and off). Plan B out, tacos in? Yes! Our tacos consisted of ground beef (professionally pre- seasoned by Aunt Laurie- delish!!), shredded cheese, salsa, and sour cream...Speaking of sour cream, I had my own little adventure with it; a dollop of search-and-rescue if you ask me (it was in fact Daisy brand, hence the joke). Ten minutes after opening the refrigerator and pulling out most of the contents, I found our tub of Daisy at the very very bottom of the fridge, practically touching the freezer...yes the sour cream was slightly frozen (ayeyeye I was quite the flustered cook) but everyone had seconds so whatever. Tacos were a huge suuccess!
By now you are probably wondering why this dinner drama is at all relevant to you and the answer is, it's not. I don't see a lot of excitement in the galley so this was quite the escapade in retrospect. Some other notable topiccs (that involve the rest of the boat) are...our boat speed has been 7 to 9 knots consistently, the wind speed has been +13 knots, we have reached the quarter-way point at 1552.5 nm, and we are still winning the Tiki Trophy (shhhh Tiki Blue is bitter)! Children's Hour was lively tonight full of boasting, limericks, and unfortunately a missing boat. Espiritu Santo (DH 1) has not checked in for three days now and only traveled 18 miles today. Keep your eyes and ears open on shore because we, Tiki J and the rest of the fleet, are very curious as to what happened to them. On a similar but less alarming note, Ciao Bella stopped sailing and started motoring today after being at the very backk of the pack since the start; as far as we know their destination is still Kaneohe Bay. As I mentioned earlier we are sailing along with comfortable wind and weather (finally warm enough for shorts and tshirts during the day), and, though we're having a great trip so far, can't wait to get lazyy on the beach in Hawaii!!
