Tiki J's Pacific Cup Blog

At 9:01 this morning we were officially halfway between San Francisco, California and Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii- whooooop! For dinner we feasted on Jack Daniels barbecue brisket, Bob Evans garlic mashed potatoes, homemade green bean casserole, mini Canada Dry ginger ale cans and Hagen-Daaz ice cream (see attached picture)! Did I mention that Kim prepared dinner to give the cook a break? What a nice halfway present! After dinner we blasted the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song, decorated the boat with leis, and opened presents sent by family members. I received a lovely card from cousin Margaret and a tin full of goodies from Mom and Haley (love the Warm Vanilla Sugar antibacterial hand lotion btw!). I'm sure everyone else will get a chance to send emails to/blog about their loves ones' gift...big thank you to Vince for the boat present from the whole crew!!!

We are looking forward to a speedy 960 miles to Hawaii and are hoping to arrive by next Monday (and beat Bequia/Split Water/Lightspeed)!! Happy halfway everyone :) Love, Tiki J

Extra:	2016 Update: The Year of the Kids! A lot of Worshams and those mental enough to be on a boat with them! In the Small World department, the Tiki J race crew, return crew (including Bill Sr) and shore support crew a.k.a. our extended families were saddened to learn of the passing of Charley [...] Dole in Hawaii earlier this year. Charley and the University of Hawaii collegiate sailing team stayed with us in Port Neches, TX during a regatta hosted by the Lamar University sailing team long ago (early '80s?) and we had several later occasions to stay in touch. Kim saw him after the 2010 Pac Cup when he was helming a J/24 in the local beer can race at age 90-something. We had hoped to see him again this summer. We will think about him often during the race and would like to lift a glass with others who knew him once we arrive in Hawaii. More
