Day 5 Update

16 July 2016 | 33 38'N:137 46'W,
Kim
It's taken this long for me to get into a groove with driving AND cooking, Much less me remembering to blog - Yes, Alyssa I WE REALLY REALLY miss you! - but Brad assured me it all isn't for naught!? With this watch schedule I'm trying to get some shut eye when he is listening to the SSB radio for info from the rest of the boats and standings.

Speaking of other boats - I'm so sorry to hear about our friends from Portland on Velocity having trouble. We don't have any more info than "contaminated tanks". Also, we assume Serenity from CPYC turned back as well since there were not any position reports over the last few days. Hope everyone and everything is okay.

Max and Cody are doing well, not without a few adult reminders every once in a while but nonetheless helping out where they can or we let them. They pulled the spinnaker down the front hatch for us this morning - I can remember that was one of my jobs at Cody's age but not going across the Pacific! We all have to remember Cody is only 9 years old doing this trip! The boys are logging the trash we see on a marine debris app we were given during the Skippers meeting. Not a lot of things, but evidently we just missed a fishing net - yay!

Things are definitely warming up weather wise. Foulings are starting to get stored and light jackets, and shorts are the outfit dajour.

On trackers - the link to the right on the blog page has the offical Pac Cup tracker, Brad's SPOT and Aaron's InReach. The Pac Cup tracker is the YB tracker and official one that should be working at all times. Brad's spot uses batteries and sometimes runs out, and we noticed the InReach after Day 4 battery is low and if we text on it or it's not taped to the aft pulpit, it uses a lot of power. No fear as we have batteries and chargers, but don't worry if we go "off the grid" for a little bit with the unofficial trackers.

We had OJ, pancakes and sausage for breakfast. For dinner we had cantaloupe for an appetizer as it was getting too ripe to wait a few days, and homemade chicken and spinach enchiladas with sour cream, avocado and salsa. (Alyssa, you get how I have to blog about what we eat:) Liz - it's amazing at how fast things ripen out here; the tomatoes, melon and avocados went fast! However, the frig isn't better as it froze the carrots so hmmmmmm, we may be in need of some veggies when we get to Oahu!

Half way tomorrow? If so, I'm one dinner off and will have to make a tough decision. Break into the half-way cooler or just go with the original plan of chicken pot pie...such a delimna. It's interesting year to year with this race as we haven't really been the "social boat" during Children's hour, or participating at all right now; Vince and I talked today during our after lunch watch, that we need to turn up the tunes tomorrow. Evidently he and Scott discussed the same thing!

Thanks to everyone for holding down all the forts at home while we are off racing in the Pacific! Signing off for now...

Kim
