Pt Arena Tileworks

05 December 2009 | Alameda
Detail of the tile I got from Pt Arena Tileworks.

Each hand made tile is made by Matt Matijczyk. An accidental glass infused piece of art.

Propane Hatch: Door Mat

05 December 2009 | Alameda
Propane hatch/step to the companionway.

The tile is made by artist/tilemaker Matt Matijczyk of Point Arena Tileworks. Point Arena, California.

He is an artist and his glass infusions are wonderful. I've met him twice driving up Hwy 1 to Mendocino. I've now got a collection of his star fish tiles I'll be using for the head, or the salon table.

Our boat name: La Boussole means 'The Compass"

Hatch Cover

05 December 2009 | Alameda
This is the new hatch cover I made for the forward hatch. The last one blew off. This one has the clear vinyl to let in the light. I'll need to add some button snaps on the sides this time.

New Faucet

01 November 2009 | Alameda
Last one installed. The sprayer for - who knows. This will be tapped into the foot pump or electric pump. You close the lever on the faucet and that redirects the water to the sprayer which is also triggered with a button. If you open the lever to the faucet the water comes out there and is held back on the sprayer by the trigger button.

-In theory.

Next is the accumulator hook up.

New Faucet

Both installed for the foot pumps. Left for salt, right for the fresh water tank. The large one for pressure water, either from the marina or the electric pump from the tank.

New faucets

01 November 2009 | Alameda
Here is the first install into the counter top of the first faucet I purchased on ebay for $20. It is an all stainless bar tap, with a lever handle. It swivels out of the way. Much nicer for the foot pumps than the aluminum ones that get bent out of shape and look dull.

New Faucet

13 October 2009 | Alameda
Done. Next are the faucets for the fresh and salt water foot pumps. A sink deep enough, and large enough (a realistic size) for actual pots and dishes. I much prefer this to the two smaller sinks. Besides, I usually place a bucket in the sink for utensilsm etc.

Once the sink is glued in I'll make a cutting board to fit over.

Faucet

One of the new features going in.

New Faucet

13 October 2009 | Alameda
Here is the new Scandvik I got on Ebay for $20. It is of ample size to mount on the corner. This is intended for Marina water supply so when under way I'll swing it out away from the sink.

Counter Tile

13 October 2009 | Alameda
Here is the finished tile for the back galley counter and fridge hatches.

Bowsprit

07 September 2009 | Alameda
This is the bowsprit on the apartment deck. Hard to photograph. 10' long. 2 coats of interlux is on, and awaiting another coat before drilling the 2 holes for the anchor rollers that will sit on teak wedge shaped pads to keep the rollers perpendicular to the chain. Just waiting for a breezless day.

I've cut off the cross members, puttied all the dents and divets, sanded off all the old paint, and wont be putting back on the bow pulpit or teak walkway. If this setup isn't good I'll have to go with a new piece of spruce from BC.

Stanchions

16 August 2009 | Alameda
The stanchions are back on. Next is to finish off the bowsprit.

We've put the tile down for one of the counters in the galley.

Galley

11 August 2009 | Alameda
I ran out of bondo bondo, so I started in with a can of S Glass bondo. It sat around for a year, and I finally found a use for it. As long as there is no flexing this all should be alright.

Galley

11 August 2009 | Alameda
I screwed in support pieces under the counter. This made the counter top very stiff and firm. No flexing. Then filled in with regular bondo. Since this will be tiled over with quickset there's no need for epoxy or anything fancy.

New sink. Home Depot version.

11 August 2009 | Alameda
Some projects are straight forward. I laid the template down for the new sink. The glass tile laying next to the pattern.

Sink is out. Watermaker below. Accumulator pressure tank. Sea water foot pump. Fresh water foot pump.

Galley

11 August 2009 | Alameda
This was not as easy as it looks. This took 3 hours, sore hands, and a broken hammer. All that held it down was 3M's 4200. Amazing stuff.

Galley

11 August 2009 | Alameda
It was so hot that instead of finishing the port stanchion bases I decided to stay in the cool of the cabin and get rid of the sink with rust spots. It is too small to fit anything larger than a small bowl, so it was decided to go with a larger single sink. Same depth as the two smaller ones.

Nap Time

08 August 2009 | Alameda
On the starboard side the settee pulls out to a twin size. Nothing like a Friday afternoon, full stomach, after work nap.

Nap Time

After getting off of work it's nice to come in for a visit to the boat.
