Cairnbaan to Crinan .... (the best trip I've been on) see YouTube under Crinan Canal Boat Song!

Morning dawned wet but soon cleared and we had a bright sunny morning heading along the canal. As the canal hasn't shrunk, boats have definitely got bigger. Last time I was in the canal 4 boats could easily get into a lock. Now, we filled one ourselves.

By 2pm we had made Crinan and passed out through the sea lock into the Sound of Jura in blazing blue skies with the west coast in all its splendour (i.e. it wasn't raining) opening up in front of us. The original plan had been to head for Craobh Haven but with a good sailing breeze and sunshine we instead made for Puilladhobrain (call it Pool Dorran- pool of the otter). We anchored overnight in near desolation and by morning had the anchorage to ourselves.

A quick walk in the morning to the Tigh na Truish hotel (where the locals used to change from their banned kilts to tartan trews, the gruesome things yer ma used to make you wear to go and see granny) before heading inland for their shopping..... or raiding!)
