Time Bandit

It’s back to the Caribbean leaving a chilly USA east coast for the winter months in the sun.

Time Bandit Pops Up

24 August 2022 | Fleece bean bag. Tempting!
Stuart Letton
It's getting closer! The biking gear is packed away. The Beemer has gone, the sails are on, the running rigging is all set, the putting green has been removed from the foredeck, the fridges are full, the dentist has done her magic and all we need now is some weather going our way. Ideally, weather that's lost it's Southern Ocean heritage and ideally turned into a South Atlantic version of a fleece covered bean bag, us having cunningly waited until mid winter to leave.

Plan A is Luderitz in Namibia for a few days and a sandblasting if the wind turns offshore as the dunes relocate via your deck. We've heard Luderitz suffers from wind. The net result of these strong to scary offshore winds has resulted in moored boats getting sandblasted as the sand dunes head west and recently, one brand new Leopard 50 dragged its mooring across the bay into some old pier piling. This poor Leopard is now back here in Cape Town, berthed opposite us getting various dents and bruises rubbed out. It kind of puts me off despite Cap'n Dave's report that Namibia is not to be missed. Fortunately our wee bike trip took us through a good chunk of the country so hopefully it's not a disaster if we miss it.

Nonetheless, weather permitting we may yet go and take a look at Luderitz........and have a wee sleep after our first two or three nights at sea after our somewhat extended break from sailing out in the wilds.

Plan B is to skip the sand blasting and alleged dodgy moorings and head direct for St Helena. Now, the speck in the ocean that is St Helena, once the home away from home of old, exiled Nappy Bonaporte, is apparently short of some basic foodstuffs such as potatoes and eggs. So, we're off to buy a few large bags of spuds, a few chicken coops worth of eggs and a pop up market stall.

Gotta pay the bills somehow.

Here's a review and preview. Hope it helps while away a few minutes.

And where exactly are we.... Minute by minute if there really is nothing better on the tele.
