That wasn’t a curveball – more like an inside slider!
06 October 2010 | La Linea, Spain
At least that was Shirish's take on our latest travail! We are tied up at the new La Linea marina next to Juno. The kids are really enjoying it a ton. So are the adults. Last night the adults went into town for tapas while the kids stayed aboard playing with the computers.
But the real bomb came at 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon. At Shirish's suggestion, I had emailed the boatyard in Ceuta, Spain to tell them we were on our way and would be there in a few days. Lucky I did. A couple hours later I get an email back from the boatyard telling me that they are doing maintenance on their travel lift the entire month of October!
Now I am not a boatyard manager, nor have I ever worked in one. But from my perspective, October is, or should be, one of the busiest times of the year. The "high" season is over and people who are wintering their boats on the hard and using the month of Oct. to haul them out. So what is this guy doing working on his travel lift in Oct.? What is wrong with working on it in Jan.?!!
Anyway, that put all of my plans asunder and I had to reopen the 'Great Time Warp Haulout Sweepstakes'! I went through this whole sweepstakes process via email when we were in the Balearics and thought I had nailed down the best price. Now this and now I have to reopen the sweepstakes. Grrrrr! Fortunately we have good wifi here at the marina so I can use Skype to call different boatyards in the area to get bids and get this all settled out later today. (We don't have a cell phone.)
Will and I went to the dentist yesterday and got our teeth checked. Will came out good. I came out good, too, except for a small cavity. Gotta get that filled when we get back to Gibraltar at the end of the month.
