Change of plans

Jim and I were planning on going into Golfito, Costa Rica for some provisioning. But today we started talking about it. It is 40 nm out of the way (20 nm up a bay and back out) and we have heard Costa Rica is expensive. I suspect they have really high entry fees -- as high as $100. To pay that kind of money just for the privilege of shopping for some (expensive) groceries doesn't sound like the kind of deal we are looking for.
So we are going to keep on truckin', as they say, and maybe make for Nicaragua or Honduras or even El Salvador. We have enough food to last several days. We have been motoring and motorsailing since leaving Balboa, but we still have enough fuel to get us past Costa Rica. So we'll likely look for a place in Nicaragua where we can diesel-up and buy some food.
Winds have been very light -- less than 10k. But all is well aboard and except for a few minor breakdowns, we keep moving northward towards our takeoff point for Hawaii. We still aren't exactly sure where that will be, either. But right now when I look at PassageWeather I see a band of breeze emanating from the Bay of Tehuantepec -- on the Pacific side and just opposite the base of the Yucatan peninsular. I am thinking now of riding one of the infamous "Tehuante-peckers" offshore for several hundred miles, then motoring to the trades. The 'peckers' are known for their strong winds and we would have them at our back. So they could give us a little boost getting offshore and to the trades. We'll see.
