Leg 1 Complete

24 May 2011 | Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico

Well, we got the easy part done! Leg 1 is complete and we are sitting in Marina Chahue (cha-we) in Huatulco. 1,500 nm (+/-) and only 7,000 more to go!! But we have this little thing called 'hurricane season' which certainly spices things up a bit! There was a 'cyclonic activity' about 350 nm south of us, but it has dissipated so for now we are good for lift off. We are presently at T minus one or two days.

We arrived Sunday afternoon uneventfully enough (and that is a GOOD thing!) and managed to find our way to fuel dock and top off the tanks. That was an added bonus because that is soooo much easier than having to jerry jug the fuel all around town. Sunday night we had a parade of officials visit us at our boat -- all needing to complete their necessary forms.

Yesterday we spent hunkered down prepping the boat. It was a long, hot day and I drank literally gallons of water. But we got lots done and rewarded ourselves with a trip into town with our new friend, Pedro, who showed us around. Pedro is 25 years old and has the hormones raging. So it was entertaining to watch him watch allllll the girls!!!

Today we will head back into town. We met Chris and Geri this morning and borrowed an oil change pump off of them. They then offered for us to join them in town. They have been down here and know where all the really cool food is. So that should be pretty fun as well.

We'll be ready to head out of here either tomorrow afternoon, or more likely Thursday....weather permitting! Looks like we will have to use up most of our fuel the first week just getting through the ITCZ (inter-topical convergent zone; or "The Douldrums") before we can get out to the trades. Gotta save some fuel for refrigeration!

The mangoes here are to die for. We have been living on them, pineapples, and watermelons. Anything with water in it!! Last night I had a simple enchilada dinner, but the fresh tortillas made the whole meal! Why can't they make them fresh in America?
