Land Ho!

Young Tom perched in the cross trees spotted land at 18.30É..wellÉ.he really did spot land but from the safety of the cockpit. Saw dolphins cruising by but alas they didnt stop. Talked to Kerikeri maritime radio earlier so we are in contact with the motherland. My cell phone pinged too but only briefly. Passed [...]

The home straight

We lost the wind in the early hours this morning for the first time and had to fire up the trusty Yanmar for the first time in 5 days. Amazingly we have been self sufficient all that time with 2 fridges, freezer and autopilot running constantly, solar and wind generator providing all our power and batteries [...]

back on line

Apologies to the vast crowds who missed yesterdays blog. We ran out of Iridium minutes yesterday and are only back online because Nic F called us up to check in, he was able to arrange more airtime with my supplier even though it is a holiday today. Top shore based crew work!

Lumpy and sleepless.

Tim
Greetings All,
We had a lovely run out of the Gulf, shortened sail on dusk down to staysl and 2/3 main, and had a rolly, bouncy night on big swells from the SE mixed with cross swells from the NE. Several dinners were offered up to the sea gods, and little sleep was had by anyone till the early hours when fatigue over came the noise, and extreme motion.
Nevertheless, all is well onboard. Oxymoronish as it sounds.
Still a lumpy old sea, the sun comes and goes Paul is on the helm, Tom in the cockpit and Jordan asleep (or at least I hope so) We are doing about 7 kts under genoa and reefed mains'l
Apologies for no Position in the last blog, they wer from the phone when I still had signal, this is via the (new) computer and much easier.
Righto then. Good morning from Windspirit!
