Tivoli in Grenada
Our last post mentioned that one adventure has to conclude before the next can begin. That was actually not precise, as we purchased a 2014 Beneteau Oceanis 50 a few months ago, sight unseen, in Grenada! Tivoli is still sitting in her slip at RYC.
The new boat had been 'stranded' in Grenada during Covid with a British Owner not being able to use the her. She had a Mickey Mouse mast as the original rig had been lost in a hurricne a few years ago, but otherwise checked out good in pictures, video tours and survey. She was priced attractively and after a few months of bargening further we became new owners in January.
Next step was how to get the boat within reach to fit a new mast and do some other upgrades. Torben had shoulder surgery December 30 and that prevented any big physical activity for several months, so we ended up having a buddy fly to Grenada with a small crew, quarantine for a week and then sail the boat 1,600 NM to Charleston SC. The trip went well despite running into a gale off the Carolina coast (you can see the track on the Predictwind tracking page), and the boat is now at the dock's of the local Beneteau dealer waiting for the new mast, sails, canvas etc. We did visit her to get acquainted in late March! It was good to eet her. She is a 3 cabin version with a lot of creature comforts, including all electric winches, a generator, solar, A/C and - soon - a new furling rig, new sails including a Code 0 and refreshed canvas, cushions and more.
The plan is to drive across country in June with a u-haul trailer with all our gear and get her set up. Then a 2-3 month cruise of the East Coast up towards Maine to test everything out.
We are in the process of sellng Tivoli right now, the potential new owner already had a nice name picked out for her.....so that means that our new baby will be named TIVOLI of San Francsco
