On September 11, 2010 we cast off the dock lines from our home port of Richmond Yacht Club, California with an agenda of a multi year cruise.
Season 1 took us down the coast of Mexico and we ended the season in Bahia del Sol, El Salvador. [...]
The 2011/12 season started in September and was highlighted by a Panama Canal transit, spectacular San Blas Islands, Cuba and a taste of the Eastern Caribbean before putting the boat up for the hurricane season in Trinidad.
We got back on the boat in Trinidad for season 3 in early October 2012. This whole season was used to explore the Eastern Caribbean and to host friends and family visiting. We left the boat at Penn's Landing on a hurricane mooring for the 2013 hurricane season.
We returned to Tivoli in late October 2013 for season 4 and cruised the area between Puerto Rico and Guadeloupe. We also spend some time upgrading our rigging and other systems before setting off in May 2014 for a Transatlantic crossing to the Azores and Ireland. A trip up the Irish Sea took us to Scotland’s Caladonia Canal and the North Sea. At the end of the season we cruised Denmark before hauling out for the winter.
Our 5th season was spend in Scandinavia between April and September 2015. It took us up the Baltic to Stockholm, via the Gota Canal to the Kattegat and Norway and the balance of the year was spend in Denmark.
We did a lot of sailing in 2016.....From Denmark to England - across the Bay of Biscay, down the Coast of Portugal, Seville, Gibraltar, Mallorca, Barcelona...and then on a quick decision back out of the Med and down to the Canaries -In February we returned across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
We spend our time off the boat in California where Judy works in the sonography field and Torben works for Passage Yachts, the Bay Area Beneteau dealer.
TIVOLI is a 1994 Beneteau 42s7.
Once upon a time she was a fairly competitive race boat, now - in her old age - she is content being weighed down with a lot of cruising stuff.
We raised the waterline twice before leaving Richmond Yacht Club to compensate for the anchors, chain, water maker, extra [...]
fuel, dinghy, kayak, 4 computers, and who knows what else....
The waterline got raised again during a haul out in Trinidad.
While Tivoli was not specifically designed as a full time cruising boat we have been very happy with the way she holds up - we often sail when others motor and always feel safe in a blow. She is big enough (almost) for all our stuff and can accommodate guests when needed.
