Overlooking anchorage in Block Island from 'the Oar'
We had our first real encounter with full on Eastern Cruising a few days ago. Pete and Mary sailed with us from Orient to famous Block Island for the week-end. We arrived late on a Friday afternoon in the New Harbor anchorage, which is about 1/2 x 1/2 Nautical Mile and divided into 3 Marina's, a mooring field and an anchoring area. As usual we opted for squeezing in with the on the hook crowd.
We have not seen anything like this since Port de Soller in Mallorca ( that is where we had fenders on both sides of the boat in the anchorage ). There were 100's of boats of all makes and sizes packed in, only to be surpassed by the number of boats and people arriving Saturday! The roads and restaurants on the small Island were completely packed as well, but great fun and awesome seafood at 'The Oar' and 'Dead Eye Dick's'.
After leaving we opted for another East Coast Specialty, a anchor stop at Cuttyhunk where 'The Raw Bar' boat delivered Oysters and Clam Chowder to Tivoli on anchor. Nice !
To counter balance all the social overload we anchored off Plymouth at Warren Cove last night - we are the only boat here!
