Chesapeake Sailing Crew Opportunity / Looking for New Sailing Friends - 2016!

13 April 2016 | Herrington harbour South, Chesapeake Beach, MD
Fair, Windy
Since we have arrived at Herrington Harbour South (Friendship, MD) - we are "newbs" to the area and the Bay.

We are excited about sailing and exploring the Bay this year! That said - we are seeking folks interested in sailing regularly with us on weekends and long weekends throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.

We've started a "crew list" from interacting with people we have met locally (and online) but the list is small (at present). Our primary interest is making new sailing friends (locally) and mutually enjoying the benefits of this great boat at its new Bay access location.

After spending nearly 2-years up the Potomac (with very little room to move), we are itching to get her out regularly in the open expanse of the Bay. We want to sail!

As a cruising couple, the Admiral and I are competent sailors and handle the boat well. The Admiral travels frequently and I will not go out without her help. So - if you are an ADULT interested in exploring sailing opportunities with us - please reach out (hdfb694@yahoo.com) and we'll arrange a meet and discuss opportunities, skills and goals.

We do not charge you sail with us (seeking sailing friends) but do require that we meet you (in advance) to determine if we are a "right fit" for each other. Signing up for a sail date is a "commitment" that we will depend on. Those that join us to sail will be expected to "pitch in" with crew responsibilities; teach others (if you are experienced) and enjoy/interact with all that participate. We welcome "help" during maintenance days (not sailing) as well for those that are handy/craftsmen. Our improvement project list is long and endless!

I am ASA multi-course certified but I do not hold a Captain's license (I am under study). I have inland, coastal and off-shore experience; know this boat well and keep her in great sailing shape. The vessel is insured, documented, registered and fully equipped with all cruising and off-shore gadgets. We are ketch-rigged, carry an asymmetric spinnaker and an Avon 340 RIB (center console) tender for exploring/fun. The boat also has a MD fishing sticker - so you don't need a personal fishing license - but you must bring your own gear.

We do plan to spend some weekends out (overnights). We have already connected with/met some great folks who will join us in April for some Spring day sailing.

We do publish a sailing schedule to those we have actually met and there are still spaces available (all weekends) in April ... and 3 of 4 (weekends) in May to both experienced and novice participants.

Disclaimer - we are cruisers... not racers. Casual sailing is the goal. We live aboard - the boat is our home. We love kids but do not have the equipment nor facilities to accommodate them. Non-swimmers are OK but will be required to wear a PFD at all times. This is a non-smoking vessel and active crew will not consume alcohol while underway.
