The ICW

I am enjoying the Intracoastal Waterway more than I ever dreamed I would. The canals have been fantastically beautiful. I just can't seem to capture it on camera. This morning as we left our anchorage at sunrise the mist was sitting on the wetlands and wrapping all the trees and brush in it's arms. Mostly the sun was shinning all day long with wispy clouds and the air was warm.
Of course we are being a motorboat for the time being. There is no other way to make this trip. So the waters are flat, we aren't healing over and the only time the boat moves is when we get knocked around by the wake of a fast powerboat rushing by us.
We did run into (not literally) a large barge and tug in a really narrow part of the canal today. We sort of held to a side and let them go by.
We are anchored tonight at mile marker 159. Charleston is about mile marker 400 so we are making good progress. We plan to be there by Thanksgiving. Tomorrow should put us at Beaufort, NC. The anchorages there are not very good so we have reserved a marina slip for the night. Hopefully we will get there in time to explore the city a little and enjoy the southern history of the area.
