Where There is Smoke......
03 May 2007 | Underway North of Daytona Beach
We were up at 5:30 again this morning and underway by 6:30. We had a few bridges to get past as we left Daytona Beach. After about an hour, with Kirby at the helm, I stuck my head up and couldn't see anything!
We were being enveloped by smoke so thick that we even were having a hard time seeing the next marker to follow. The smoke is burning our noses and throats. There seem to be fires burning all over Florida and Georgia. Being from Southern California we are used to wild fires - but never like them. They are a terrible thing.
I copied this from the news -
"Drivers on Florida's east coast should be careful Thursday morning because smoke from the wildfires could cover some roads, including I-95.
People living in one neighborhood along the Volusia-Flagler County line were allowed to go back into their homes last night. However, firefighters are still trying to get the upper hand on afire in Flagler and Volusia counties that has now grown to over 1,500 acres.
The Division of Forestry said the fire is about 40 percent contained."
