Should have looked at the swell forecast!

11 July 2021 | Culatra
Martin Whitfield | Misty
I had worked out that the 33-mile trip from Ayamonte to Culatra on Saturday was my best chance to get some wind that was not blowing in my face. The journey also worked well with the tides, leaving Ayamonte just before low tide and arriving at Culatra at high water slack. What I didn’t do of course was to look at the swell prediction, lulled into inaction by a few calm days. But somewhere out in the Atlantic it must have been rough as I had a good 1.5-2m swell on the beam. Rock and roll time with little wind to force the boat through the waves. Luckily my stomach held up through the trip, but I was glad to get into the Faro lagoon to perfectly smooth water. This morning’s dog walk showed things had not improved overnight which mad me feel better as the wind would also be against me if I had postponed until to today.
