The Ocean in a Bucket

Topaz Rival has a water cooled fridge - much more efficient than an air cooled version. However, this means it sucks up water from the sea and then pumps in back overboard when the compressor has extracted the necessary cooling properties. To me, how this works, even in in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, is one of the beauties of science! Anyway, sitting in the mud of Hayling Island means there is no water for at least a good part of the day, and even then it is probably thick with sediment, virtually guaranteed to bung up the filters. So the temporary solution is to disconnect the in and out pipes and let them take in water and spit it out again through a bucket. I like to think of it as my the Ocean in a Bucket!

For the same reason, I have not run the engine since my arrival here, and it won't be turned on until we have been lifted out, all the mud cleared from the inlet pipe and are popped back in deep water ready to sail away.
