A novice’s perspective

After almost exactly 37 hours we arrived in Eden, a small, picturesque town with a few colonial time houses. Most importantly it has a supermarket and fuel station.
After arriving we felt our way into the anchorage in Snug Cove but are still affected by the swell from the strong north east winds which sees us rolling away.
I was seasick for almost the entire journey. During this period I became very friendly with the purple bucket which I clung to fondly, but eventually I found my "sea legs" as it is called, I have learnt.
Nevertheless there were quite a few moving moments, for me, the novice.
Just standing in the cockpit (sometimes with Steve putting his arms around me) and marvel this incredibly blue vastness. The sound of silence, except for the wind and a "cling-clong" resulting in something banging around.
Or the joy that a pack of dolphins can bring. How playful these fellows can be!
But what touched me the most was the night: the moon, the starry night and Torea's steady sliding through the waters without complaint. The quiet and yet at the same time the intimidation of the sea.
This morning we went into town for a cup of coffee - where we discussed our perspectives on my first serious sailing. How different it was - and I once again learnt that I should not be so hard on myself.
We then got some groceries and filled a container with diesel and Steve filled a container with water. So we are set up to continue sailing south - whether it will be Flinder's Island or somewhere along the eastern coast of Tasmania, we will see.
We are now awaiting a southerly change that is due to arrive this evening when we will make our way across the harbour to East Boyd Bay since Snug Cove is open to the south.
By the way: "Comanche", the favourite of the Sydney-Hobart race, was in Hobart after 36 hours - sailed almost three times as far as we did in the same time! But so far, 7 boats resigned and one stayed with us here in Eden over night, for what reason, we don't know. In my opinion, Torea has done very well!
