Photo: Randall, Matt, and Shevaun in our season-ticket seats at Florida Field (a.k.a. The Swamp), the football stadium at the University of Florida
Thrilled by our Cedar Key experience, we returned to Gainesville on Tuesday afternoon (March 15th), arriving just in time to find ourselves a good parking spot on the University of Florida campus at the end of the work-day. Matt seemed quite impressed when we walked into the football stadium and found the seats that go with our Gator season-tickets. "The Swamp" is a noisy and intense place on game-day but, even with many people getting their after-work exercise by running up and down the stairs and bleachers, it seemed relatively peaceful on an off-season afternoon.
After a tasty dinner at Burrito Brothers (a tiny, carry-out-only, hole-in-the-wall institution during Shev's tenure at UF but now a large restaurant with bar), we joined the crowds filing into the McKethan Stadium to watch a UF versus Florida State University baseball game. Shev and Matt are keen baseball fans and had bought the tickets soon after arriving in Florida. Being Matt's first Division I college baseball game, it was particularly satisfactory that it was an exciting game with some very unusual plays, including one where the teams had to be called back onto the diamond after a correction in the ruling by the officials determined that a batter was not out and the inning had not ended. It certainly helped that this ruling went in favor of the Gator's who went on to win the game 6 to 0. Yes, very satisfactory indeed...
