Sailing Around the Point

23 July 2006 | San Diego, CA
We Made It! Trisha, Dario and I set sail from Mission Bay at approximately 9:00am on Saturday and began our journey around Point Loma and into South San Diego Bay! With an elapsed time of 7 Hours and 47 Minutes, we traveled 30.7 nautical miles at an average of 4 knots (speed over ground). She's now at her new home at Fiddler's Cove Marina! Picures, the GPS Track and an over view of the course can be found on my web site at http://www.onesailorslife.com/photos/. Enjoy...we Did!

Changing up the Cockpit

21 July 2006 | San Diego, CA
Spent another afternoon on the boat again today! This time I spent the majority of my time doing work in the cockpit.

The first project was to try to wire the outboard motor to charge the 12 volt battery on board. Once we get her out to the mooring, there won't be the convenience of shore power. So, I purchased the plug from Boat Depot and got the wiring and terminal connectors from West Marine. I spent about 15 minutes putting this whole cable together only to find out that the motor isn't putting out any power to the receptacle. So, after examining the wiring diagram from Honda, I've decided that the fuse has to be blown. So, tomorrow I plan to check that out during a quick stop by the boat to drop off last minute supplies.

The next project was to remove all of the old tattered bunting and rearrange the aft pulpit a bit so that it makes sense. I removed the old corroded life ring hanger and centered the flagpole on the pulpit. I also removed the pointless lock of wood that was mounted to the starboard stanchion. I removed the old Loran Antenna and then shined up the pulpit railings.

By that time, Trisha had taken a nice long nap and was ready to head home...so, we did!

Getting Rid of the Old Owner

20 July 2006 | San Diego, CA
Today, Trisha and I spent a few hours on the boat cleaning out some things that belonged to the old owner. We sorted through every drawers, cabinet and storage hold. We brought on some newly purchased items for the boat and sprayed Febreze all over everything! We stayed there until dark and ended up "christening" the forward V-Berth! ;-) Can't think of a better way to break in the new boat!

In the proceess of making her "ours", we've thrown away several things and brought in some things of our own. The boat's current name is "Venturer", however we plan to rename her as soon as we get her down to San Diego Bay! Her new name has been agreed upon as "Rhapsody in Blue". We plan to go all out and even do the proper name changing ceremony!

Purchased the Boat!

18 July 2006 | San Diego, CA
Well...after looking at a few boats, Trisha and I have decided to purchase a Catalina 25 from an owner who has her up in Mission Bay! This poses a challenge for us that will become a great learning opportunity and a great way to get to know the boat. We will be keeping her moored at Fiddler's Cove, which is located in the South West portion of San Diego Bay. Sailing from her current berth to the new mooring will be approximately 23 anutical miles! So...Trisha, Dario and I will be sailing her down here on Saturday!
