We returned by slow motor to Majorca, getting slower as the engine struggled. We had a lovely night on the usual turquoise water in Cala Molto, next to Cala Guyu which had a beach, and therefore hundreds of chairs, umbrellas and sun worshippers. Our Cala, with its 30 degree water temperature and pure blue colour, was lovely.

Next morning into Ratjada, a nearby town and marina to get the engine fixed. We hadn't intended to go to Ratjada, but it was an interesting experience. The Old Town had gone, replaced by tourist hotels for Germans. Why thousands of Germans would flock to a place without any historic interest or beach is a question. But we had two nice meals in street restaurants, watching Germans and horse and carriages trot by. (We have now tried Spanish omelettes and Majorcan John Dory, and the melon and jambon is to die for.)

On to Cala Mondrago, which again appeared to be a small slit in the rock but opened up into two hidden beaches, with lots of boats and people, and youths doing death defying dives from the cliffs. Next day a pleasant stop in a pretty bay on Cabrera Island, Hannibal's birth place. We couldn't stay as we weren't able to book a buoy in this national marine park, so we just stopped for coffee on board and then headed for the party island, Ibiza. The photo is of the 14th century castle on Cabrera. The island was used as a base by Barbary pirates and as a prison camp during the Napoleonic War. Of the 9000 French prisoners of the Spanish, only 4000 survived. And there are now 30 breeding pairs of the Eleonora's falcon.

The 60 mile trip from Cabrera to Ibiza was on a smooth-as-glass sea. We saw one dolphin busily going somewhere and one turtle, then a pod of dolphins which appeared to be sun baking like the locals do.
