“Yes Virginia there is a green flash”
16 December 2017 | Martinique
We had a great sail to Marie Galante, another island of Guadeloupe, and anchored off the tiny settlement of Port Louis. Port Louis had only two things of interest. One was the gathering there of the French yachtsmen who had just completed the Route de Guadeloupe from the Canary Islands. The second was the green flash. As the sun sat on the horizon, we all watched for it, though some of us were disbelievers. As you can see from Bill’s photo, there is indeed a split second just after the sun has dropped below the horizon when the green flash appears. Bill amazingly managed to capture it with his camera so we have recorded it here for posterity, and for other disbelievers.
We went back for the night to Iles des Saintes, where we had another delightful meal at La Fringale, to fortify us for the 77 mile sail the next day to Martinique.
