Northbound

It was chilly on Monday. We were going to head into Titusville and do a bit of provisioning, but decided it could wait a day and just hung about the boat discussing where we should go next. With a month long layover starting the last week of February we needed to decide where we wanted to be for that [...]

Endeavour Launch

We arrived in Titusville as planned on Thursday and anchored out in front of the Titusville Municipal Marina. We arrived early enough to hop in the dinghy and go in and check out the neighbourhood before heading back and cooking supper.

What a difference a day makes

Up early and on the move again by 7 AM this morning, we aim to put in another longish day, covering the remaining 46 miles to Titusville as they are calling for rain tomorrow...no sense standing out in the cockpit in the rain if you don't have to.

On the move again

We are on the move again. We left St Augustine this morning at first light on our way to Titusville to see the Endeavour launch - scheduled for 4:39 AM Sunday morning. It was supposed to be a fairly warm sunny day with a high around 72 F but for the most part is was cloudy and breezy...so we were still [...]

Provisioning and Stowing

We've spent the week provisioning and stowing in preparation for moving on from St. Augustine. As you can imagine, after being in one place for a month some of the lockers seem to have emptied themselves...at least partly. The winter clothes are now stowed where the summer clothes used to be and the [...]

Oswego Canal

18 October 2009 | Oswego, NY
After a rocky ride from Kingston on another overnight sail (starting Wednesday night around 6:00 PM) that started out smooth enough, but around 10 PM turned into an 8 hour mechanical bull ride...we made it to Oswego...then cleared customs, took down the mast, cleared the first lock, went shopping, ate dinner and were in bed while it was still light out...and were asleep in minutes.

Unfortunately the engine developed a little 'cough' that turned in to Atomic 4 bronchitis...so Friday and Saturday were spent working on the engine and eventually some combination of changing plugs, points and filters, cleaning the carburetor and a few adjustments by the local boat engine repair brothers...the engine is purring like a contented kitten (at least for the moment)

So today (Sunday) we finally were on our way again. We cleared locks 7, 6, 5, 3, 2 and 1 (no I didn't miss 4 - there is no lock 4 - I don't know why) which takes us to the end of the Oswego canal. We are sitting at the Phoenix NY town dock (which has electricity - which means we have heat tonight). It was a beautiful day...sunny and pleasantly warm.
Tomorrow we head out about 2 miles to meet the Erie Canal and then take a left and head for Lock 23 and then into Lake Oneida. It will take about 6 hours to cross the lake and once we clear Lock 22 at the other end we'll probably call it a day.
