Northbound

It was chilly on Monday. We were going to head into Titusville and do a bit of provisioning, but decided it could wait a day and just hung about the boat discussing where we should go next. With a month long layover starting the last week of February we needed to decide where we wanted to be for that [...]

Endeavour Launch

We arrived in Titusville as planned on Thursday and anchored out in front of the Titusville Municipal Marina. We arrived early enough to hop in the dinghy and go in and check out the neighbourhood before heading back and cooking supper.

What a difference a day makes

Up early and on the move again by 7 AM this morning, we aim to put in another longish day, covering the remaining 46 miles to Titusville as they are calling for rain tomorrow...no sense standing out in the cockpit in the rain if you don't have to.

On the move again

We are on the move again. We left St Augustine this morning at first light on our way to Titusville to see the Endeavour launch - scheduled for 4:39 AM Sunday morning. It was supposed to be a fairly warm sunny day with a high around 72 F but for the most part is was cloudy and breezy...so we were still [...]

Provisioning and Stowing

We've spent the week provisioning and stowing in preparation for moving on from St. Augustine. As you can imagine, after being in one place for a month some of the lockers seem to have emptied themselves...at least partly. The winter clothes are now stowed where the summer clothes used to be and the [...]

Chesapeake Bay

22 November 2009 | Chesapeake Bay
We are happy to report that we are making good progress "hopping" down the Chesapeake...

When we last reported in we were heading up Delaware Bay for the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal last Sunday. We entered the canal after dark but as it is lit by "street lights" all the way along both shores it's pretty much impossible to get lost. We got into Chesapeake City at about 12:30 AM and anchored for the night.

Next stop on Monday night was an anchorage just north of Annapolis harbour. Tuesday, we anchored in the Choptank River. Wednesday we did a short hop to Solomons and Thursday another short hop to the Great Wicomico River (south of the Potomac River) which put us into Virginia. Friday we took a day off and stayed put. Saturday was another short-ish hop to Jackson Creek (Deltaville, VA) in the Piankatank River.

The weather and engine have been most cooperative.

Today (Sunday) we are on a long haul to Norfolk. The anchor was up and we were on our way out of the (rather crowded with the whole gang we met up with at Cape May) anchorage at first light (6:30 am). As we don't want to attempt entering Norfolk Harbour in the dark, our speed today will determine which anchorage we aim for.

Then tomorrow...if all goes according to plan...we could finally be starting the 1000+ mile journey down the Intracoastal Waterway

And an addendum to the last update...I'm in "trouble" for not mentioning that we didn't sail out of New York Harbour when we blew the impeller because at Castleton we put the mast up but didn't rig the boat as we were trying to make up some time and had a weather window of a couple of days. So the plan was to rig the boat at Atlantic Highlands...ah the best laid plans...
