Grenada

Late in august, I flew from cleveland through Miami to Grenada. The thought of spending several months in one place hiding from hurricanes was not so appealing. But, I learned to love Grenada. We were anchored in prickly bay, which afforded us many conveniences. We had friends and acquaintances, soon to be friends, all over the place. There were two shopping buses a week to both grocery and marine stores. Happy hour everyday at the tiki bar. Good wifi there too for downloading movies and tv series. If you haven't watched the walking dead or homeland, you really should. There was trivia night every Tuesday. We played twice, but the majority of players were students either at the med or vet schools. Rumor has it they also used phones to look up answers. Now I never saw that but they were often the big winners. We won a bottle of rum punch and a ticket, 25 ec, for big bingo, which was every Wednesday night. We did that once. Even I think four hours of bingo is a bit excessive. The prizes ranged from cash to goats, pigs and other livestock, a well used dinghy, and a jeep that needed some work. We won nothing...
Late in our stay, we decided to do an island tour. Some of our fellow tourists we knew, others we met and really enjoyed. Check out the pictures. Our guide, cutty, knew every edible plant and nut on our route and he was always stopping along the road to pick and give us a chance to smell and taste. He was great.
I returned to the states for my brothers memorial service in October. All the de Windt family was well represented. Brian and Jeannie, Caitlin and Ann all came to Detroit. Joe couldn't be with us. Tough to have a real job. And Marty had to stay with Lily and true colors. There were upwards of 500 people in the church and I think we were all stunned when my niece, Allison, stood and read a letter my brother had written after his diagnosis. It was all him, love, humor, memories, thankfulness for his life and family, friends and those with whom he worked. No one knew about the letter but Allison and more recently her husband, Chris. It was amazing and so comforting. Nephew, delano III, spoke too and it was not easy to keep it together.
And back to Grenada. I was gone from Thursday to Saturday and Marty had ordered enough boat parts for several mantas. My kind sister, Pam, drove them all to Detroit and I had to unpack boxes and stuff everything into my suitcase with the exception of two which were pretty big. All but the biggest arrived with me. It came in the next night from Miami, so here I go back to the airport to fetch it.
Resting again...enjoy the pictures and I will be back soon.
