The town

We spent four fairly uncomfortable and worrying nights in the marina and familiarized ourselves with the town. It had the feeling of being out of kilter with the 21st Century with its many 'Lidos' at the seafront and quite enormously wide boulevards.
The children loved the partially enclosed electric pavements crossing through the parallel streets from sea level upwards.
The streets were full of fashionable cafes and lots of designer shops with a general feeling of real chic Italy. The architecture in the town centre was outstanding. There was no outward sign of a country in financial difficulty until we noticed that throughout our stay the overflowing rubbish bins were not being emptied !
We found a tiny restaurant with an open wood fired oven offering delicious cooked chicken, pizzas, seafood and many other home cooked meals at very affordable prices so we ate there every night of our stay and really enjoyed our food.
