We finally picked up the trade winds and Tuarangi took off! She has been superb all voyage so far, dealing with confused seas and large swells, calm conditions and now the trade winds. She immediately lets you know if she is not happy with the set of the sails and will go happily for hours/days once settled. Overnight was quite exciting and we surfed down the back of increasingly large waves, but boy..did we eat up the miles! This morning, a seizing on the wind steering parted, confirming that we were over-canvassed. This saw me helming in my nightie and Simon fixing it in his undies, as we were just having a change of watch! Just as well there is no-one else about..and no, you can't have too much string! Daylight saw 21 little dead flying fish in the scuppers. Poor things.
If we can keep up our progress, we should be in Vanuatu on Sunday.
