The Blue Mosque, Istanbul
Minarets and domes dominate the skyline, peak out between houses and sit proudly on the hills of Istanbul. The Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya are the two must sees in Istanbul. Standing under huge domes, stained glass windows and walking along galleries with massive wooden doors we were continually asking ourselves how were these built centuries ago. Only in Istanbul could there be a Mosque called The New Mosque but built around 1575.
Wandering the streets of Sultanahmet we came across other lovely but smaller mosques filled with beautiful ceramic tiles, windows and painted domes.
Istanbul was hot and crowded with lots of other tourists but 4 days wasnt enough hopefully we will find time to return when the cooler air comes along the Bosphorous.
