Arrived!!
10 April 2014 | Fatu Hiva, Marquesas
Chris
Simply put...Tulu, Chris and Sara - around 3200 nautical miles, 20 days, one small tuna caught, two very large somethings lost along with lures, one other yacht seen (after 17 days), two cargo ships and an awful lot of ocean.
First week...south from San Cristobal, Galapagos, little wind, lots of wind, reaching, thunderstorms, impressive lightning storms (not too close luckily), broken main halyard - oops!
Second week...heading west, lots of wind, big swells and lumpy seas, alternating between spinnaker and genneker most of the time downwind (luckily mainsail not needed as not the sea conditions for Sara to be going up the mast for a repair)
Third week...lighter winds, sunny skies, calmer seas, miles to go clicking down.
Fresh bread baked every second day, lots of books read, sudokus finished, just about enough sleep and still talking/married.
First landfall Fatu Hiva just as the sun sets on the 21st day - palm trees, grass skirts, drums, and big smiles.
Longest cruiser ocean crossing in the world...we've done it! We are in French Polynesia and the Pacific islands beckon. Hard to believe.
